Sunol is a small rural town located along Niles Canyon in Alameda County. It is well known for its historic railroad system, which still runs today. Citizens of Sunol have fought to maintain their small-town feel and so far, they have resisted development. Because of its small size, Sunol has a one school district, which offers individual attention for each student. Sunol is home to several attractions including the Sunol Water Temple which is built in a Romanesque style. The Elliston Vineyards feature a tasting room and tours of its lustrous grounds. For the adventurers in the family, there are plenty of hiking, camping, and backpacking opportunities in the Sunol Regional Wilderness.
